Comic Transcript: The GenAI Router
Panel 1: The Promise
- Setting: A modern software development office. A smiling manager stands with his hands out, confidently addressing two software engineers sitting at their desks in front of monitors displaying code.
- Manager: “Thanks to Generative AI coding, we are downsizing to a much leaner team! Maximum efficiency, minimum cost!”
- Visuals: Sticky notes on the office glass wall read “AI Genic” and “AI buzzwords.”
Panel 2: The Reality
- Setting: Months later in the same office. The manager is sweating profusely, gripping his bald head with both hands in absolute panic.
- Manager: “Oh my god! Our AWS bill! It’s thousands of times higher than projected! The prompts are burning money!”
- Visuals: A large presentation screen behind him shows a line graph titled “GenAI Cloud Costs” and “API Usage Fees,” with a giant red arrow skyrocketing aggressively off the top-right of the chart.
Panel 3: The Innovation
- Setting: The manager is sitting at his desk, completely defeated, burying his face in his hands. A young engineer wearing an orange hoodie approaches him holding a notebook, looking calm and confident.
- Engineer: “Sir, I have the solution to slash our obscene GenAI costs immediately!”
- Manager (muffled through hands): “You do?! How? Lower API usage?”
- Engineer: “Even better!”
Panel 4: The Solution
- Setting: The engineer points proudly to a large whiteboard displaying a diagram titled “OUR NEW STACK.” The diagram shows an “API Endpoint” sending an “AI PROMPT” to a box labeled “ENGINEER SOLVER” (depicting a person typing at a desk), which then “WRITES CODE” down to the “OUTPUT.” Other engineers in the background look on.
- Engineer: “We built a simple router! The incoming requests go to our team directly. We resolve them ourselves instead of the expensive AI! Instant savings, guaranteed reliability!”
- Manager (looking up, stunned and confused): ”…So, we’re just writing code again? Like humans? And it’s cheaper?”
- Engineer (smiling): “Precisely!”
